1. Heat oil in pan; cook onion and garlic over low eat; stirring until onion is soft. Add beef; cook until brown. Stir in un-drained crushed tomatoes, water, wine, paste, stock cubes, herbs and sugar. Bring to boil; simmer uncovered stirring occasionally for around 2 hours or until sauce is thickened. (My batch only took 1 hour 30mins)

2. Serve with pasta or spaghetti and sprinkle parmesan cheese as desired.

  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 Medium brown onions
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1kg minced beef
  • 2x 410g cans tomatoes
  • 1.5 cups of water
  • 0.5 cups white wine
  • 2x Tablespoons tomato paste (50g)
  • 3x Beef stock cubes, crumbled
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar

I didn’t bother with the marjoram or oregano. Total cost: $19.56 AU

So for around $5 a person this best ever bolognaise can be yours.
